LUVO TYANDELA- B.SC (STATISTICS), PGDM & MBA

Luvo is Chief Executive Officer of Clade Investment Management.  Prior to joining the financial services industry, he was an internal auditor with a major tobacco company. Thereafter he joined ABSA to begin his career in financial services. He has over 6 years of experience in alternative investments. Luvo’s previous position was at Sanlam Investment Management as a portfolio manager in Alternative Investments. His responsibilities included the research, design and implementing structures for the purposes of yield enhancement and to provide strategic long term asymmetry to the portfolios. He was also responsible for structuring investment vehicles for regulatory compliance and tax efficiency. He developed and managed a Portable Alpha Fund, which involved beta management, extraction of “alpha”, and portfolio engineering.

 He developed an international fund that invested in actively managed protected investment products, which offered capital protection and returns linked to a balanced basket of asset classes. Before that he worked at Abvest Associates Structured Products division responsible for pricing, trading and implementation and the administration of structured products.

Luvo has a BSc (Statistics), a PGDM and obtained his MBA in 2001. He developed one of the first regional indices in southern Africa as his research paper. He attended an intensive derivatives training course with emphasis on pricing derivatives, option strategies, option risks, volatility, structured products, new generation products and exotics.

Gavin Goldblatt - BSocSci, Economics Honours, MBA

Gavin is one of the founder members of Catalyst Innovation and Clade, and is currently one of the directors of Clade as well as head of Catalyst Innovation. He has extensive experience in Venture Capital, project finance and strategy advisory services, in South Africa, the UK and the USA. He has worked for Deloitte & Touche as a Strategy Consultant and for RMB Holdings, where he managed proprietary investments, worked in project finance, corporate finance and venture capital, led the Group Strategic Planning Team and established RMB Resources.

Gavin regularly advises both South African Government organizations and international organizations on business support, technology development and commercialization issues. Amongst other pro-bono work he has been an advisor to the National Council for Innovation, a member of the Steering Committee of the South African Research and Innovation Managers Association, and a member of the Council for Higher Education MBA Accreditation program.

David Robb - BA (Hons) Econ

David is one of the founder members of Clade, and since establishing Clade he has been incubating start-up companies in the health and bio-tech sectors, providing advisory services, sitting as the chair of several large trust funds, and been leading commercial property investment initiatives.

David started his career after completing his degree at Sussex University, by working in Britain in health services. After returning to South Africa he became general manager of Alexandra Health Centre, a highly successful not-for-profit clinic, and developed courses in hospital management for Wits Medical and Business Schools. After the 1994 elections David headed the South African Health Department in the North West Province until 1997

Carl Isernhinke - BSc, B Sc Honours (Actuarial Science)

Carl is one of the most highly rated structured products developers in the country, and has considerable experience as a quantitative analyst. Carl's most recent position was at Abvest Associates (Pty) Ltd, where he was responsible for establishing a structured products division, including: designing and implementing structured products; expanding the client base, and; servicing relationships with clients. His responsibilities included the pricing, trading, implementation, tax and regulatory compliance and administration of structured products. 

Prior to joining Abvest Carl was a director of Escher Structured Products (Pty) Ltd. ESP focused on design, pricing, implementation/trading and administration of derivative based investment products. Before joining ESP, Carl was responsible for the quantitative analysis of asset managers and the construction of the risk-profiled Multi-Manager portfolios for PSG Escher Investments. There he designed and added structured products to the range of risk-profiled portfolios. The assets in the structured portfolios grew to over R4 billion.

Carl obtained his BSc degree majoring in Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science from Wits in 1995. Thereafter he completed an Honours degree in Actuarial Science, including courses on Investments, Options Pricing, Modern Portfolio Theory, Interest Rate Derivatives and Hedging and Swaps.

NICOLE FUNK - B.BUS. SC (FINANCE)

Nicole graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2007. She joined Clade Investment Management in August 2008 fulfilling the position of Business Developer and Analyst.

THEMBEKA NZIMANDE - B.BUS. SC (Actuarial Science)

Thembeka holds a Bachelor of Business Science degree in Actuarial Science specialising in the field of Quantitative Finance from the University of Cape Town. Her studies exposed her to many interesting topics including: financial economic, assets and liability modelling quantitative methods in finance, Derivatives pricing, and evaluation models.

ABIGAIL JACOBS – Paralegal Diploma and bookkeeping Certicificate

Abigail has joined our company in April 2008. She is responsible for Reception and Administration duties, as well as assisting our bookkeeper.
